Friday 31st July - The real adventure begins

Today we set off on the official part of the Cape York Adventure Before Dementia 2015 Trip. We headed up the highway towards the Kennedy River Rest Area (KRRA) 345km north of Cairns. It was a steep climb up to Mareeba on the Atherton Tablelands and then an undulating trip until we reached Lakelands.

The dirt and corregations doesn't start until Laura where we meet up with some people who where heading back from the Cape and they gave us some useful tips, they said the road from Laura to the Hann River Roadhouse was the worst part of the trip. It was time to let the tyres down and hit the dirt, we worked out that 70kph was the best speed to travel at, the road thus far is no worse than any we travelled on our last trip on the Gibb River Road or Shane travelling the Plenty Hwy. When we arrived at the KRRA we met up again with a couple who we saw in Laura, they joined us for happy hour by the fire. Tomorrow we head towards the Archer River Roadhouse.
