Tuesday 11th - Coen to Cooktown

Today we took the scenic route to Cooktown via Laura. We covered the same road as on the way up stopping in at Musgrave Station where we saw a light plane land, the station hand had to clear the cattle from the strip first.

We reached Laura where we stopped and refuelled, I only had 7 litres left in the tank so I am glad I topped up the 17 litres in Weipa, I did have 20 litres in a drum as a reserve. We went to the pub for lunch, it was only 12.30 and they run out of hamburger buns so only the first 4 could have one. This was the first car that made the trip to the Cape.

The route via old Laura was picturesque with great views of the valleys as we desended into Cooktown with a number of river crossings.

The scenery changed all the time from rolling green hills to red dusty plains.

The free camp we where going to stay at was for self contained RV's so we went onto the Peninsula Caravan Park. After we setup camp we ventured into town to see some of the sights we will visit tomorrow.
